Poorly but happy

Hey folks

I have been either bed-ridden or couch-ridden all day today, having been struck down with a cold and sore throat combo. This forced state of sloth sounds pretty tempting in normal, healthier circumstances when one is bored at work, but when this scenario presents actually itself it is not so appealing. Plus as it turns out, there is pretty much only shite on telly. What is the point of being couch-ridden if you can't enjoy it?!

However, recently I read "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle and was really interested in what he describes as the three modalities - acceptance, enjoyment and enthusiasm, and that you should always be in at least one of these states (and hopefully working through to the third state). I don't know about the other two, but I have certainly accepted that I am poorly today. I like the idea that by accepting things, I am on the right track towards being happy. It's all good. But now the weekend is on my doorstep, I hope that my slack day will put me in good stead to enjoy the next two days fully.

Hope all of you out there are well-er than me. Keep it real peeps.

Cheers

Twice in One Day?

This is just a quicky I promise. I was just about to sign off when 'Detachable Penis' by King Missile came on the old media player, and I just had to tell the known universe how much I love this song. Not only is it freaking hilarious, but an awesome song musically.

Don't even get me started on how good 'The Cheesecake Song' or 'Jesus Was Way Cool' are! It's all too much.

Thanks King Missile.

(Surely) The Busiest Person in the World!

Hello world! I hope you're all well and loving life lately.

Work has been really full-on over the past few weeks and I've been puttin' in the hard yards. I'm working on a special project writing applications for students applying for State Training Awards (have I mentioned I work at a uni?), and I find I'm really enjoying the challenge. I just wish that my regular job was as interesting. I was already considering a job change (and even a bit of a career change perhaps) and this has confirmed what I already knew - I am getting stale and need a proper challenge, stat! Not that I'm one of those ubercrazy driven career-type people (stomping their way up the corporate ladder); I want to be inspired and feel motivated by my work, and to enjoy what I do. Work is so much more than a pay cheque, and I long for a job that will make me feel good about getting up and heading to work each day. Is that too much to hope for?

Uni has been super-duper busy too, so lately I kind of feel like I'm leaving work after a 10-11ish hour day, to come home and start on my homework. Boo-hoo, I know, but I quite enjoy the drama of feeling hard done by and in a strange way get a bit of a kick out of being that busy for a change. But, bring on the end of semester all the same...

On another note, my folks are overseas at the moment, tripping the light fantastic on a tour of northern and eastern Europe. Lucky buggers! My Dad semi-retired a few years ago now, and since then he and my Mum have pretty much gone on a big overseas trip each a year. This usually falls around May sometime, so for the whatever-th year in a row (just about) my Mum is away for Mothers' Day. Bad Mummy! No, I'm just happy that they are finally getting the chance to live their lives for themselves and not giving it all up for their kiddies, and I just wish I had half the life they are living now! Good work parentals!

So I suppose the time has come for me to sign off. Rock on peeps!

Cheers

Well and Truly Overdue Entry

Despite all of my best intentions when creating this blog, I have done the unforgiveable and neglected my duties of authorship and have let months pass between entries. Shame on me. And the worst part is that I can't promise it won't happen again! Oh dear.

I suppose I have an excuse as I am back at uni and have been and will be innundated with homework until the end of May (although I dislike excuses generally. I once read that you shouldn't ruin an apology with an excuse, and have tried to live to that ever since. Not always successfully but I do try! Bless.) .

Mid-last year the idea occurred to me that I could return to study, and through a lo-o-ong process of soul-searching and investigation I ended up enroling into a Bachelor of Communications (part-time), and am now in my second semester. This decision came about as I had reached a point in my life where I wasn't getting any younger (I'm the ripe old age of 27 as I sit here) and feeling dissatisfied with where I was heading in terms of my future working life. I am employed as an Executive Assistant for one of the head-honchoes at a university, but this really isn't where I want to be. The job is fine, but it doesn't set my pants on fire.

Another exciting aspect of undertaking this degree is the potential for spending a year studying overseas. I have wanted to move/live overseas for a while now, but didn't just want to end up pulling pints in London like a (literally) million other Australians. I wanted some kind of purpose, and study seems like a pretty exciting one to me.

So while it is exciting to be heading somewhere, the kicker is that 'somewhere' is still a few years off and I'm still in the same job, doing the same shite that made me want a change. Ah, life hey!

Anyways, I hope everyone is travelling well and enjoying life over the Easter break. Thank goodness for five days off work!

Happy Australia Day!

Hi there everyone in cyber-world, and Happy Australia Day!

Yes, today is Australia Day. It marks the 220th year anniversary of when Captain Cook set foot on these shores all the way back in 1788. Australia Day isn't the big celebration that the fourth of July seems to be in the States. It's not that we aren't patriotic, I suppose it's that we're a bit lower key as a people. However, the best bit about Australia Day this year is that it falls on a Saturday so we get a public holiday on Monday. Hello long weekend!

In Australia there is a really cool nation-wide youth-focused radio station called Triple J which counts down the top 100 songs from the previous year as voted by the listeners - The Hottest 100. The music is a lot better than the commercial shite all of the other radio stations play, with wide variety of alternative music being the staple fare. As this is held on Australia Day each year, it has become a bit of a tradition to have a Hottest 100 BBQ and I'm heading to my friend Shelley's house in about an hour. So far on the countdown I've heard a couple of songs I voted for, including 'Samson' by Regina Spektor and 'Eliza' by Jackson Jackson. Both songs rocked my world last year so I'm pretty happy to have heard them make the list. Interested in learning more? Check out triplej.net.au.

On a much sadder note, the death of Heath Ledger this week has been a terrible tragedy and I have felt so very sad since I heard the news. He was an incredibly talented and passionate actor, but more importantly he also came across as a generous, funny and intelligent human being. He was only a year older than me and I suppose I have watched him grow into an adult as I too have grown. Without meaning this to sound as shallow as it possibly could, I will always remember him as being one of the best on-screen kissers of all time. He was master of the hand-on-cheek move that always made my insides feel all good and warm. His death is a huge loss to us all.

So, in saying all that, I hope you all have the best Australia Day ever! Rock on, be present and enjoy life. Every day is a good day.

Cheers

Welcome to The Time Is Now

Hi there everyone (for I'm sure there are many of you reading this, enthralled!), and welcome to my blog. The Time is indeed Now.

This first entry is possibly the hardest to write as it is kind of difficult to know what to say (and of course I am keen to make a good impression). My intention for this blog is to write about things that interest me, my thoughts about life and the world but also as a creative outlet where I can take cool photos and write about anything and everything. Sounds promising!

I'd like to mention and recommend one blog in particular which inspired me to create my own. I stumbled across a blog belonging to a couple from Toronto who are living the best life ever and I just totally dig their vibe. If you're interested, check out http://www.thebestlifeever.blogspot.com/.

Anywho, best dash. Things to see, people to do...

Catch you on the flipside.
